VENTURA COUNTY STAR ONLINE — Five foodie things to do in and around Ventura County this weekend (Feb. 20-22) — by Lisa McKinnon
From a dim sum-and-sake pairing in Westlake Village to a tomato-themed drinking-glass release in Ojai, there's plenty to do, see and taste this weekend (Feb. 20-22) in and around Ventura County.
3). Bring your appetite. Free gourmet hot dogs for all will be part of the scene when the first Ventura County location in the Pasadena-based Dog Haus chain opens Saturday in Thousand Oaks. Selections include the barbecue-sauced Cowboy, the smoked bacon-wrapped Downtown and the avocado-bedecked Sooo Cali.
And that's not all: The first 24 people in line when the doors open at 11 a.m. will receive one free Dog Haus Thousand Oaks combo meal per month for six months. Oh, and a T-shirt. (Some restrictions apply.)
For those in a spending mood, the full menu of house-made sausages and root-beer-battered corn dog sliders (we kid you not) will also be available for ordering. Our money is on a burger called the Motley Bleu 2.0, making its chain-wide debut Saturday and topped with soy-racha onions, bleu Sriracha sauce, white American cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato. (Available to wash it down: on-tap selections from Ladyface Ale Companie.)
BONUS: Dog Haus is located in a portion of what used to beDenny's before the latter closed in 2013. Between bites of your free hot dog, stroll over and take a look at the neighboring Urbane Cafe, slated to open in April. (50 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., 805-497-3644, doghaus.com)
