Dog Haus, a “craft casual hot dog” outfit from Pasadena, is expanding through franchising in Southern California. The first Orange County outlet is coming to Santa Ana. The chain, known for its all-beef skinless hot dogs served on grilled King's Hawaiian rolls, recently (2/14) named Chef Michael Brown as the company's culinary director. Brown's experience runs the gamut having worked in the kitchens of Google, Nike, Wolfgang Puck Worldwide, Patina Restaurant Group and Red O in Los Angeles. He'll be helping with the hot dog chain's expansion, and developing new menu items such as sandwiches. The first Dog Haus opened in Pasadena in 2010 and became a local sensation. Zagat calls its dogs “gut bombs.” Consider The Little Leaguer – a beef dog topped with house chili, Fritos, diced onions and cheddar cheese. The Orange County expansion is part of the company's plan to add roughly 50 locations in Southern California. In mid-March, the company said the first five franchise locations will be at 6501 Topanga Canyon in Canoga Park (opening this spring), the MainPlace mall in Santa Ana, West Covina at 2678 East Garvey Avenue South, Burbank at 3817 West Olive Avenue and Rancho Cucamonga at 6401 Haven Avenue.
