WESTWORD ONLINE - Restaurant Roll Call for 2015: Nearly 250 Openings - But Also Some Losses
If 2015 can be summed up in one word, it would be "frenetic." Although the number of restaurant and bar openings didn't keep pace with last year, every month saw growth — and the pace didn't slow down as the year ended, as is often the case. Along with all of the great (and not so great) new places, there were quite a few closings — many due to the current economic scene in Denver, with both real estate and labor at a premium.
Growth and change also meant that many restaurateurs were able to renovate, refurbish and reopen, so the year welcomed back many concepts that had closed the previous year with the goal of finding new territory.
What were some of the trends? Coffeehouses, barbecue, craft breweries, ramen (and other noodle) bars and pizza joints. By the numbers, here's what the year looked like for some of these:
New barbecue joints: 10
New coffeehouses: 18
New breweries: 16
New ramen bars: 7
Pizza places: 20
